The third challenge in the UX/HTML/CSS Design and Code Challenge series is an e-commerce website. The rationale for this particular challenge was to find a site that could easily lend itself to use of CSS Grid layout.

One of the most challenging aspects of building webpages is managing layout. HTML and CSS offer several different methods to control layout. The layout options include using normal flow, floats, multi-column layout, flexbox, and CSS Grid.

The second challenge in the UX/HTML/CSS Design and Code Challenge series is another blogging website. In contrast to the first challenge, the inspiration website for this challenge is much more complex and offers opportunities to test out my skills.

Creating layouts with normal flow, positioning, and floats is possible, but not very user-friendly for developers. That’s where flexbox comes in to help. With flexbox it’s possible to build much more complex layouts than by just using normal flow, positioning, and floats.

As CSS has evolved, new and powerful features have been added for control over layouts, including Flexbox and CSS Grid Layouts. However, older layout techniques like positioning, floats, and multi-column layout are still very useful and should definitely be part of the CSS developer’s arsenal.
